FALL FIESTA HIGHLIGHTS

Thanks to supporters of Music Mission and the City of St. Paul, we got to have Ramon Gutierrez up to Minnesota for our inaugural "Fall Fiesta". He led an incredible workshop that was attended by all ages and taught in Spanish as well as English.

Some of the activities were videoed here by Richard Medek. Like these collaborations with these fantastic guest artists.

FALL FIESTA

November 14th at the Black Dog Cafe in Saint Paul, Music Mission will present a first of its kind, one of a kind night of musical collaboration bridging the creative and traditional music communities of Mexico and Minnesota headlined by Son Jarocho legend Ramon Gutierrez, from Xalapa, Veracruz. Ramon will be performing solo, backed by Minnesota greats, and accompanying Minnesota artists from across genre and vision. Click here for video.

Gutierrez is a composer, performing artist, and luthier based in Veracruz, Mexico. Ramon has performed across the world, from the Kennedy Center to Winnipeg Folk Festival leading his group “Son de Madera”, perhaps the most emblematic Son Jarocho (Mexican folk music from Veracruz) act in the world. An opening set by Maria Isa Pérez-Hedges, a Boricua singer, songwriter, actress, rapper, activist, youth worker and international recording artist born in Minnesota and raised on St. Paul’s West Side begins the night.

A free clinic will be offered by Ramon at 3 p.m. and performances from Twin Cities based artists JT Bates, Jim Anton, Katia Cardenas and Vladimir Garrido-Biagetti alongside Gutierrez, performing their original music will run throughout the evening beginning at 6 p.m.
